Microtech eliminates paper from the shop floor with Mentor
Information on paper is arguably the very worst method of managing an electronic assembly plant. Its disadvantages are well known:
- Paper in the work environment is an electrostatic discharge (ESD) threat to electronic components.
- Issue management of paperwork is a nightmare. Operators can accidentally pick up old issues or be working from unofficial copies. Pages can become detached and may even get accidentally included in a paper package for a different product! If an up issue is required, every single copy of the original version must be found and removed.
- Each individual stage in the manufacturing process requires different information. A single paperwork package that includes everything can be confusing. The alternative of producing a separate package for each process is an administrative challenge.
Microtech has addressed these issues by writing a software package (Mentor) to eliminate the need for paper in the production area.
Mentor also integrates all Microtech’s other management software systems (such as ‘bar coding, and the management of “Returns”) into a single, easy to use, web browser application..
